Expander
Buchla Ziggy is an electronic instrument designed for musicians who want to explore Buchla synthesis without the complexity of a traditional modular system. Compact, intuitive and performance-oriented, it lets you rapidly create organic sound textures, evolving sequences and experimental sonorities. Its gestural approach and patch-free workflow make it easy to get to grips with, even if you're new to the West Coast world. It's an excellent choice for sound design, live electronics and producers looking for an inspiring instrument with a difference.
Features
Analog Buchla architecture with digital control
The Ziggy combines analog oscillators and a Low Pass Gate typical of the Buchla world with modern digital control. This gives you the lively, organic grain of analog circuitry, plus practical features like preset saving, advanced modulations and quick recall of your settings. You can create complex sounds more easily, without wasting time on technical setups.
Patch-free workflow for immediate creation
Play and modulate directly from the interface, without complex wiring. Illuminated knobs and sliders let you quickly assign modulations and experiment naturally. This approach makes Ziggy much more accessible than a conventional modular system, while retaining Buchla's trademark creative freedom.
Multi-function Cycler for evolving modulations
The Cycler acts as a clock, envelope, LFO or random generator. This flexibility makes it easy to create organic movements, unstable rhythms or unpredictable sound textures. You can move quickly from an evolving bass to experimental strings without multiplying external modules.
Built-in effects for immediate sound enrichment
The onboard effects processor adds reverb, delay, chorus, distortion and creative processing directly to the instrument. You get a deeper, livelier sound without having to use external effects or open a plugin in your DAW. Ideal for composing quickly or playing live with a minimalist setup.
Full studio and performance connectivity
Ziggy works equally well on its own or as part of a larger setup. Thanks to MIDI, USB-C and CV 1V/octave, you can connect it to a Buchla LEM 218 keyboard, MIDI controller, computer or external modular system. This versatility makes it easy to integrate into a modern home studio or hybrid live setup.
Compact live format
With its steel and oak chassis, USB-C power supply and compact footprint, Ziggy is easy to transport. It fits naturally on a desk, in a mobile studio or on stage. You get a true Buchla instrument without the size or complexity of a traditional modular system.
