Overdrive, distortion & fuzz effect pedal
Electro-Harmonix founder and president Mike Matthews and prolific inventor Bob Myer have known each other for a very long time. Together, they designed the very first Big Muff, and have collaborated throughout Electro-Harmonix's rich history. Always in search of innovation, Bob used to present Mike with updated versions of his circuits to keep pace with the technologies available at the time. As is often the case in this process, some designs are retained while others are set aside and eventually forgotten. The Big Muff Pi 2 dual-amp design is a case in point: it didn't make the cut in the late 1970s and was quickly filed away in Bob's files.
During an interview with Bob in his old workshop, Electro-Harmonix disciples Josh Scott (of JHS Pedals) and Daniel Danger unearthed this unpublished circuit, in the form of a hand-drawn schematic among Bob's old notes. Josh then set about deciphering the original schematic and revived the circuit under the name Big Muff Pi 2.
The Big Muff Pi 2 follows in the footsteps of the classic Big Muff Pi, while offering a unique fuzz texture to enrich the palette of Muff sounds. With magnificent sustain and plenty of gain, the Big Muff Pi 2 stays true to the Big Muff Pi heritage while asserting a character and response all its own. Crisp highs, massive lows and more raw clipping give the Big Muff Pi 2 a particularly cool feel, both original and undeniably Big Muff. A little more dynamic, a little more fuzzy, the Big Muff Pi 2 is a must-have for any Big Muff Pi enthusiast!
