The GUILD Newark St. Collection Kim Thayil Polara (Black) solid body electric guitar is the signature model of the legendary Soundgarden guitarist he founded with Chris Cornell and bassist Hiro Yamamoto in 1984. In 2010, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Thayil #100 on its list of the one hundred greatest guitarists of all time. A pioneer of the "Seattle Sound", he developed his style and sound on an original 1978 Guild S-100. The Newark St. Collection Kim Thayil Polara is directly inspired by it. Vintage-inspired, the Kim Thayil Polara's lutherie is traditional in the best sense of the word: mahogany body, mahogany set neck, 22-fret Indian rosewood fingerboard (24.75" scale and Vintage Soft U profile). Guild HB-1 AlNiCo II Humbuckers replicate the warm, articulate tones of 1970s Polara S-100s with extra clarity to "slice through the mix". A Phase Switch activates the pickups in phase or out of phase.
