Hiwatt Custom 20 Combo

The Custom 20 is a Class A "cathode bias" amp designed to deliver all its character in overdrive territory. Capable of the magnificent, pure clean tones that are the hallmark of Hiwatt amps, it's also perfect for playing with effects pedals, which it enhances with its elegant, natural compression.

Its contained power combined with its compact size make it an ideal amp for studio or intimate stage use.

Unlike more powerful Hiwatt amps, which tend to maintain an immaculate clean sound at high volumes, the Custom 20 invites you to push its gain setting all the way to noon to reveal a rich, natural drive sound at an exploitable volume.

In its ideal operating range, at or just beyond the saturation point of the clean sound, it gives the impression of an easy-to-play, inspiring amp that's an immediate pleasure to play. It's a plug-and-play model, which has the particularity of accentuating the personality of each guitar with which it's played, while retaining the Hiwatt charisma. Its distinctive style therefore depends on the instrument it's played with, and generously rewards the extreme EQ settings needed to get the most out of the whole. An EQ almost to be considered an instrument in its own right, so effective is it.

Like other Hiwatt amplifiers, it features Harry Joice's special military-grade wiring. It's also equipped with the brand's beloved Partridge™ transformers and is handcrafted in England.

In this 1x12 combo version, the Custom 20 is equipped with the F25-25 watt model specially developed by Fane Acoustics™ for Hiwatt amps. Modern in design, it perfectly conveys the amp's character while meeting contemporary expectations. It emphasizes the high midrange, so it sounds clear, articulate, with bite, but without being aggressive to the ear. It also gives the impression of a much more present guitar. When pushed to its limits, it emits a subtle saturation that helps the guitar stand out even more in the mix.
