It combines two ELEMENTS MK2 635 column modules, a spacer, and an ELEMENTS MK2 110 Sub A active subwoofer to form a compact, cohesive, and quick-to-set-up configuration. What applications is the SMART BASE designed for?

This configuration is particularly well-suited for speech, presentations, corporate events, and places of worship, where intelligibility and consistent coverage are priorities. The 10-inch subwoofer also provides sufficient bass for background music, moderate DJ sets, or small bands.

For high-volume concerts or applications requiring significant power in the extreme low frequencies, a configuration featuring a larger subwoofer or additional modules would be more appropriate.

How is coverage achieved?

Each ELEMENTS MK2 635 module incorporates six 3.25-inch drivers paired with Phase Plug waveguides. When combined, the two modules form a longer line source, which helps maintain higher sound pressure levels and intelligibility as the distance from the audience increases.

The specified dispersion of 90° x 5° per module helps concentrate the sound energy within the coverage area. However, actual coverage depends on the installation height, the venue’s geometry, and the audience’s position.

What role does the 110 Sub A subwoofer play?

The ELEMENTS MK2 110 Sub A provides reinforcement in the low and lower midrange frequencies, but it also serves as the system’s active base. Its Class D amplifier delivers 900 W RMS, with a rated peak power of 1,800 W.

Its 10-inch driver is particularly well-suited for applications where vocals and music need to remain prominent without the physical bulk of a large 15-inch subwoofer.

How is it assembled?

The subwoofer enclosure, spacer, and column modules are assembled using the tool-free SnapLock system. The signal is transmitted via built-in contacts between the components, eliminating the need for visible speaker cables along the column.

The spacer is used to position the midrange/tweeter modules at an appropriate height without unnecessarily adding speakers when the additional reach of a longer column isn’t required.

Does the DSP adapt to the configuration?

The system detects the number of midrange/tweeter modules connected and applies the appropriate corrections for the configuration in use. This makes it easy to scale the system without having to manually reconfigure the entire crossover every time the setup changes.

The Flat, Contour, and Voice presets also offer different starting points depending on whether the priority is speech or music playback. Remote mode is designed for control via the HK Audio DSP CONTROL platform.

Can it be integrated into a professional audio network?

The Ethernet connection enables system control and supports Milan AVB audio transmission within a compatible infrastructure. This feature is useful when an event is already using a centralized digital audio network.

Using Milan AVB requires compatible network equipment. It should not be confused with a standard Ethernet connection.

How many people can the system accommodate?

HK Audio specifies an audience of up to approximately 250 people for this configuration. This figure should be considered a guideline rather than a fixed capacity.

The actual audience size covered depends on the type of program, the expected sound level, the room’s reverberation, the audience layout, and the required bass level. A conference and a DJ set do not impose the same constraints even with the same number of people.
