Used for decades by the maritime and aeronautical industries, Okoume (native to West Africa) is a species of choice for electric guitars (John Suhr used it for many years). This light / low-density wood can be considered a Mahogany with more pronounced high frequencies and an extended dynamic range, exacerbating the instrument's clarity. The fingerboard is made of Amaranth or Purpleheart. This is a relatively rare, high-quality species from South American forests. Its high density provides extended sustain, excellent dynamics and clarity.
It can be compared to Brazilian rosewood.
