Sampler
The LOVE Synthesizers FIRST LOVE White is a polyphonic, multitimbral FM digital synthesizer that combines sound design, sequencing, and composition in a compact, standalone format. Designed in Iceland, it stands out for its interactive touchscreen, expressive controls, and 4×4 MIDI looper. This white version is designed for musicians, producers, and sound designers who want to create their own sounds, build arrangements, and improvise without relying on a computer.
Key Features
- FM synthesis with customizable algorithms, combined with waveshaping and morphing envelopes to create evolving timbres and modify their character in real time.
- 4-part multitimbral architecture allowing you to combine up to four sounds, with either monophonic or polyphonic operation.
- Touchscreen, velocity- and aftertouch-sensitive pads, physical encoders, and buttons for direct control over sound parameters.
- 4×4 MIDI looper, riff sequencer, and arpeggiator to record patterns, layer sequences, and gradually build compositions.
- Scale generator and microtonal tuning to create custom tuning systems and explore new melodic possibilities.
- Built-in speakers, USB-C or compatible battery power, and MIDI/audio connectivity for standalone use, in the studio, or on stage.
FM Synthesis and Sound Design
FIRST LOVE is based on an FM synthesis engine with customizable connections between operators. This approach allows you to work directly on the sound’s structure, creating basses, pads, percussive sounds, or metallic textures. Waveshaping enriches the available waveforms, while morphable envelopes allow you to evolve the sound characteristics over the course of a note.
The modulation matrix offers additional possibilities for animating synthesis parameters. The built-in effects—including reverb, delay, and chorus—then allow you to add space, repeats, or movement to the sounds you’ve created.
Four Parts for Composing and Improvising
With its four-part multitimbral architecture, the FIRST LOVE can play multiple instruments simultaneously. This allows you to combine a bass line, a melody, an atmospheric texture, and rhythmic elements within a single composition. Each part can also be controlled via a separate MIDI channel to integrate the synthesizer into a larger setup.
Monophonic and polyphonic modes allow you to adapt the sounds to different playing styles, from melodic lines to chords and layered textures.
MIDI Sequencer, Arpeggiator, and Looper
The FIRST LOVE features composition tools that let you develop musical ideas directly on the instrument. The riff sequencer is used to organize sequences of notes and rests, while the arpeggiator generates repetitive patterns whose tempo you can adjust.
The 4×4 live looper lets you record and organize MIDI loops. Overdub, quantization, merge, and arrangement functions make it easy to layer patterns and gradually transform them. This way, you can start with a simple sequence, add multiple parts, and develop your composition as you improvise. The looper works with MIDI musical data rather than recorded audio samples.
Touchscreen Interface and Expressive Performance
The FIRST LOVE’s interface combines an animated touchscreen with physical controls to make exploring FM synthesis easier. The screen lets you visualize how parameters interact and directly modify sound structures without having to navigate through a series of menus.
The velocity- and aftertouch-sensitive pads respond to playing dynamics and the pressure applied after notes are triggered. Rotary encoders and buttons complement these controls, allowing you to adjust settings while playing, programming, or performing.
Custom Scales and Microtonal Tunings
The scale generator lets you define note arrangements tailored to your compositions. The microtonal tuning system goes a step further by allowing intervals different from those of standard equal temperament. This feature is particularly useful for musicians working within musical traditions that use alternative tunings or who wish to experiment with new relationships between notes.
Connectivity and Studio Integration
The FIRST LOVE features left and right line outputs via 6.35 mm jacks and a headphone output in the same format. Its configurable audio routing also allows you to distribute the four parts across up to four mono outputs—a useful feature for recording or processing multiple sounds separately with external equipment.
The 5-pin DIN MIDI In and Thru connections allow it to be controlled from a master keyboard or integrated into a MIDI setup. The USB-C ports provide power and MIDI communication with a computer, while the 3.5 mm mini-jack Sync inputs and outputs allow you to synchronize its operation with other compatible electronic instruments.
A Standalone, Portable Synthesizer
Measuring 186 × 237 × 52 mm and weighing approximately 790 g, the LOVE Synthesizers FIRST LOVE fits easily into a bag. Its built-in speakers let you work on a musical idea without immediately connecting an external monitoring system.
It can be powered via USB-C or run on four compatible 18650 lithium-ion batteries. This portable power option, combined with the sequencer, looper, and built-in controls, lets you create and improvise on the go, then use the same instrument in a studio or live performance setup.
