The PHILOSOPHERS TONE 2 COMPRESSOR is a pedal offered by the Pigtronix brand.
Generations of guitarists have sought clean, quiet sustain from a compressor, and that was the guiding research and design goal behind Philosopher's Tone, producing a compressor with 18-volt internal headroom and control naturally musical tone.
First released in 2009 and sparking further success at Pigtronix, the Philosopher's Tone 2 is a "best of" design, incorporating the best elements of previous iterations as well as a completely redefined Grit button for significantly greater versatility.
Practitioners of the mystical and ancient art of alchemy have long sought an element called the Philosopher's Stone. They believed that if discovered, it could turn lead into gold and grant immortality to whoever possessed it. Philosopher's Tone 2 lets players conjure up bright sustain, soaring lead tones, and articulation across all six strings.
