Portable pa system
The Samson Expedition Explor with Handheld Wireless is a portable, battery-powered sound system designed for mobile performances, classes, conferences, and events that require more power than a small standalone speaker can provide. This version includes the Samson XPD2 Handheld digital wireless system with a handheld microphone, allowing you to amplify a voice immediately without having to purchase a separate wireless microphone. With 200 W of amplification, a 3-channel mixer, and up to 12 hours of battery life, it’s an ideal solution for users who want to minimize the number of devices they have to carry.
Key Features
- 200 W of power combined with a 3-way system featuring an 8-inch woofer, a 3.5-inch midrange driver, and two 1-inch tweeters.
- Includes the Samson XPD2 Handheld digital wireless system for direct use with the included handheld microphone.
- Built-in 3-channel mixer for connecting microphones, instruments, and line sources without always needing an external mixer.
- Bluetooth 5.0 for streaming music from a compatible smartphone, tablet, or computer.
- Built-in lithium-ion battery providing up to 12 hours of use away from a power outlet.
- Weighs 6.8 kg, with a built-in handle and multiple mounting positions to facilitate mobile performances.
Can it be used right away for a presentation or vocal performance?
This version comes with the Samson XPD2 Handheld system. The USB receiver plugs into the dedicated port on the Expedition Explor and transmits the handheld microphone signal wirelessly between the user and the speaker.
Two XLR/6.35 mm jack combo inputs are also available for connecting microphones, instruments, or line-level sources. The system can therefore handle multiple sources without requiring the immediate purchase of a separate mixing console.
How do you handle a vocal, an instrument, and music?
The built-in mixer features three channels and supports various audio sources. You can use the wired inputs for a microphone or instrument while playing music from a Bluetooth source or the mini-jack auxiliary input.
Adjustable reverb is available for microphone and wireless inputs. The three-band master equalizer adjusts the bass, midrange, and treble of the entire mix to tailor the tonal balance to the venue or application.
Is it suitable for truly mobile performances?
The built-in rechargeable battery provides up to 12 hours of battery life. The speaker can thus operate during a class, event, or performance without a constant AC power supply, with actual runtime depending on usage conditions.
Weighing 6.8 kg and featuring a built-in handle, the Explor can be carried by a single person. It can be used upright, tilted, as a monitor, or mounted on a compatible standard 35 mm stand.
Can it be integrated into a larger sound system?
A 6.35 mm line-out jack allows you to send the signal to other compatible audio equipment. This connection is particularly useful when the Expedition Explor needs to be paired with an additional sound system.
What limitations should you be aware of?
The Expedition Explor combines amplification, mixing, Bluetooth, and a wireless microphone in a single speaker, but its mixer is limited to three channels. A setup involving multiple microphones, several instruments, or advanced routing requirements will require an external mixing console.
Bluetooth is used to receive audio from a compatible source. It does not replace the XPD2 system for the wireless microphone and is not intended as a link for transmitting the mix to another speaker.
