Monitor controller

The SPL Surround Monitor Controller (SMC) is an integrated analog volume controller/matrix switcher for managing 5.1 and stereo sound sources, whatever the source, in any application audio:

- Stereo and Surround audio production
- Authoring DVD-V, DVD-A, SACD and DTS
- Cinema and video post-production
- Video and game production
- A/V and multimedia production
- Home cinema and audiophile systems

The benefits of SMC become evident when used in combination with modern audio and video production tools, such as ProTools?, Nuendo?, Cubase?, Logic?, Deck?, etc. It allows you to manage listening levels and the choice of sources independently of the software, and without any loss of quality. No more fiddling with auxiliary channels and sends to listen to a signal other than your 5.1 mix. And no more problems with converters overloading due to the listening level.

One of the most notable advantages of the SMC is its ability to manage several sources, stereo and multichannel: you can, therefore, compare and listen to SACDs or DVDs directly, instead of having to import the corresponding audio files then configure sound balances. listening - not to mention the necessary conversions.

Audio/Video amplifiers/tuners are often used for this task of managing the level/selection of multichannel sources. The problem is that we impose A/D and D/A conversions on the audio signals or pass them through level control circuits such as VCA or others, which deteriorate their quality. So you never hear your audio signals as they are - which is extremely frustrating if you're working on high-resolution media such as SACD or DVD Audio.

In addition to the Surround listening system (6 channels), the SMC offers and manages a stereo configuration. The 8 corresponding output signals are grouped on a 25-point Sub-D type base. On the input side, another Sub-D 25 base offers a 6-channel surround input and another stereo input. 8 additional RCA type connectors allow you to easily connect SACD, DVD, CD or DAT players. A Slave output allows you to send the stereo or surround input signal directly to a recording system. Level adjustment is carried out via a six-layer, discrete component potentiometer, and precise, extremely robust keys provide the switching functions.

The basic input/output architecture of the SMC is based on the electronically symmetric circuits for which SPL is renowned. Their frequency response extends up to 100 kHz, with excellent dynamics and effective common mode rejection: specifications superior to those of the SACD format, which only very high quality analog circuits can ensure.

Finally, the SMC blue steel stand-up box, robust and ergonomic thanks to its inclined front, harmonizes and integrates perfectly with computer production environments.
