Sampler
The Synthstrom Audible Deluge is a standalone groovebox that combines a synthesizer, a sampler, a sequencer, and an audio looper into a compact, portable instrument. Designed for electronic music production, it lets you create sounds, program beats, record samples, and build complete tracks without a computer. Its 128-pad RGB matrix and extensive sequencing capabilities are ideal for producers and musicians who want to compose, experiment, and improvise both in the studio and on stage.
Key Features
- Three types of synthesis—subtractive, FM, and wavetable—to create basses, pads, leads, and electronic textures with extensive modulation capabilities.
- Built-in sampler with direct playback from an SD card, sample slicing, multisampling, time-stretching, and pitch shifting to transform and reuse audio sources.
- A 128-pad RGB matrix (16 × 8) for programming sequences, visualizing notes, and controlling different parts of a composition.
- Advanced sequencer with multiple tracks, polyrhythms, trigger probabilities, and automation to build evolving arrangements.
- Audio and MIDI looper, resampling, and Arranger mode for recording performances, layering loops, and structuring complete tracks.
- Rechargeable battery offering over 6 hours of battery life, built-in microphone and speaker, with MIDI and CV/Gate connections for use on the go or in a production environment.
Three synthesis engines to create your sounds
The Deluge combines subtractive synthesis, FM, and wavetable synthesis to produce a wide variety of electronic sounds. Subtractive synthesis lets you shape timbres using filters, while FM offers possibilities for creating harmonics and percussive sounds. Wavetable synthesis, meanwhile, lets you work with different waveforms to develop a wide range of textures.
Oscillators, envelopes, LFOs, and modulation options allow you to shape sounds over time. The engine also includes several effects, including reverb, delay, chorus, flanger, phaser, and bitcrusher. Parameters can be adjusted and automated to gradually transform a sound during a sequence or performance. Polyphony can reach up to 64 simultaneous synthetic voices, depending on the processor load.
Sampling and Audio Manipulation
The Deluge’s sampler lets you record sounds from its audio inputs or built-in microphone and then use them in a composition. Samples are played directly from the SD card, making it easy to use sound libraries without having to load all the files into RAM.
You can split a sample into multiple segments, change its pitch using pitch-shifting, or adjust its duration to match the tempo using time-stretching. Multisampling also allows you to assign multiple samples to different note pitches. The synthesis engine’s filters, modulations, and effects remain available to transform these sounds.
The resampling feature lets you re-record the resulting sound of a creation so you can reuse it as a new sample. This approach makes it easy to transform complex sequences into audio elements that you can then cut, edit, or integrate into another arrangement.
128-Pad Sequencer and Scalable Arrangements
The 128-pad RGB matrix is the centerpiece of the Deluge’s interface. Organized into 16 columns and 8 rows, it displays sequences in a grid layout inspired by a piano roll. You can place notes, adjust their duration, navigate through measures, and zoom in on different sections of a pattern. The pads can also be used to play notes in keyboard mode.
The sequencer supports polyrhythms, unusual time signatures, and probabilistic trigger conditions. This allows you to create multiple patterns of varying lengths, program variations, or have certain notes trigger randomly based on a defined probability.
Euclidean sequencing, swing, and automation features round out these capabilities. Arranger mode then lets you organize the various parts and audio clips into a longer structure, allowing you to expand from a few loops into a complete composition.
Looping and Live Performance
The Deluge features a built-in looper capable of recording audio loops as well as instrumental and MIDI sequences. Overdub functions allow you to gradually add new layers without erasing the previous ones. For example, you can start with a rhythm, record a bass line, and then enrich the whole arrangement with pads or melodies.
Clips can be started, stopped, or muted during playback to modify the arrangement on the fly. The Deluge also allows you to work with audio loops recorded from an external source and synchronize them to the project’s tempo. These features make it an ideal instrument for electronic improvisation and performances built around evolving sequences.
MIDI, USB, and CV/Gate Connectivity
The Synthstrom Audible Deluge can serve as a control center for multiple electronic instruments. Its MIDI In and Out connections, as well as its USB-B port, allow for the exchange of MIDI data with keyboards, synthesizers, and compatible equipment. In particular, the sequencer can transmit separate parts across the 16 MIDI channels and automate control messages.
For analog and modular setups, it features two CV outputs and four configurable Gate/Trigger outputs. These allow you to control note pitch and trigger compatible equipment. Synchronization connections also make it easy to integrate the unit into a setup of rhythm machines.
The audio section includes two line outputs via 6.35 mm jacks, one line input via a 6.35 mm jack, one microphone input via a 3.5 mm mini-jack, and a headphone output of the same size. This allows you to record an external source, listen to your creation through headphones, or send the audio to a mixing console, audio interface, or amplification system.
A Standalone, Portable Production Station
Measuring 305 × 208 × 46 mm and weighing approximately 1.5 kg, the Deluge remains easy to transport. Its rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides over 6 hours of runtime, according to the manufacturer. The built-in microphone and speaker let you capture a sound idea and work on a composition without immediately setting up additional equipment.
The Deluge also operates via a USB-B power source or a compatible 9–12 V AC adapter. The manufacturer includes a 32 GB SD card containing samples and presets, as well as a USB cable. The external AC adapter is not included in the manufacturer’s standard configuration.
