How important is good sound insulation?
It's essential for mixing in a noisy environment like a club.
Should I opt for headphones with detachable cables?
Yes, because they're easier to replace and extend the life of the headphones.
Which headset is best for beginners?
Sennheiser HD 25 or Audio-Technica ATH-M50x models are ideal for beginners, thanks to their versatility and ease of use.
Are more expensive headphones necessarily better?
Not always, depending on your specific needs. Headphones that are adapted to your mixing style and comfort will always be preferable to simply expensive models.
What's the budget for good DJ headphones?
Expect to pay €80-150 for excellent entry-level/mid-range DJ headphones, and €200-400 for top-of-the-range professional headphones. Models costing less than €80 are ideal for beginners.
Can I use my DJ headphones to listen to music on a daily basis?
Absolutely! Most DJ headphones are also excellent for pleasure listening, especially models like the ATH-M50x or the HDJ-X10, which offer a very pleasant sound.
How do I care for my DJ headphones?
Regularly clean the pads with a damp cloth, and check the condition of the cable and joints. Store them in a hard case to protect them during transport.
What's the difference between DJ headphones and studio headphones?
DJ headphones are designed for sound isolation and robustness in the club, while studio (monitoring) headphones are designed for sound neutrality in mixing and studio production.
What is the role of frequency in headphones?
Frequency indicates the range of sounds the headphones can reproduce, from deep bass to crystal-clear highs. Good DJ headphones generally cover a wide range of frequencies to deliver a rich, precise sound, useful for hearing the details of a mix.
Can I use Bluetooth headphones to mix?
No, we don't recommend it. Bluetooth headphones have too high a latency for DJing. This causes a time lag between the sound heard and the actual sound, making it impossible to precisely time the tracks. To mix properly, wired headphones are the best choice. There are exceptions, however, such as the Pioneer DJ HDJ-F10-TX, a top-of-the-range model incorporating very low-latency technology, but its price remains very high and it is aimed at a professional audience.
