Tokai Gakki Co, Ltd. is a Japanese company founded in 1947. Since the mid-1960s, it has been known for building remarkable replicas of acoustic and electric guitars from the benchmark brands Gibson ("Love Rock Model", "Les Paul Reborn"), Fender ("Springy Sound", "Breezy Sound"( and Martin (with whom Tokai began a collaboration in 1974). The Les Paul Tokai "Lawsuit Guitars" of the 1978 / 1980 period are of such high quality that they overshadow Gibson. The American firm had no choice but to take legal action against Tokai to defend its interests.
