Sampler
1010music Blackbox 2
The 1010music Blackbox 2 is a compact, all-in-one sampler for composing a complete track without a computer or DAW. It’s designed for beatmakers who want to step away from the screen, as well as anyone looking for a standalone, portable sampling studio that can be used without ever opening Ableton or FL Studio.
It builds on the concept of the original Blackbox, which has already been adopted by many beatmakers who prefer to compose by hand rather than with a mouse. Everything is done on the unit itself—recording, cutting, sequencing, and mixing—via a color touchscreen. It’s accessible even to those new to sampling.
Key Features
- Four track types (Shredder, Loop, One-Shot, Slicer, Multisample, External): build a complete track without a DAW
- 4-inch color touchscreen: edit your samples with the touch of a finger
- Double the processing power compared to the original Blackbox: more simultaneous tracks and effects
- Up to 16 samples per patch in One-Shot and Loop modes
- Step, Grid, and Piano Roll sequencing with probability functions
- Multichannel USB streaming (3 stereo outputs) to your DAW
- 3 hours of battery life on the built-in battery
- Internal resampling: capture your master output without an additional cable
Four tracks to build an entire song
Each track can use a different instrument type:
- Shredder: cuts up and replays a sample in real time, like scratching
- Loop: plays a loop synchronized to the tempo
- One-Shot: plays an entire sample each time it’s triggered (kick, snare)
- Slicer: Slices a sample (a drum break) into individually playable segments
- Multisample: reconstructs a real instrument sampled at multiple pitches
- External: processes a signal connected to the input in real time
By combining these tracks, you can lay down rhythm, melody, and bass without ever leaving the machine.
Three sequencing modes, without reading sheet music
- Step: works like a classic drum machine—you select cells on a grid
- Grid: a more visual view for organizing your patterns
- Piano Roll: a note editor in the style of music production software
Probability functions add an element of controlled randomness to your repeats, so your loops don’t always sound the same.
One screen per composition step
Blackbox 2 organizes your project into dedicated screens:
- Launch to play loops and sequences
- A screen for linking scenes
- Song to build the song structure
- A mixing screen
- Aneffects screen
This layout avoids nested menus: each step has its own space, which is convenient for beginners.
Recording and live looping without tedious adjustments
Recording can start automatically as soon as a signal exceeds an adjustable threshold—handy when your hands are full.
You can also set the loop duration in advance so it loops cleanly, without having to manually trim it afterward. The loop restarts instantly so you can stack layers during live looping. Recordings can last up to 4 hours.
Finger-controlled DJ effects
Filter, echo, gate, flanger, bitcrusher, and repeater can be controlled via a two-dimensional touchpad: a single finger gesture adjusts two parameters at once, without having to juggle multiple knobs. Ideal for breaking up the monotony of a loop while you’re composing.
