Subwoofer
The ADAM Audio Sub8 PRO is an active subwoofer designed to complement a stereo or multichannel monitoring system. Its DSP processing and settings, accessible via ADAM Control, allow you to adjust its connection to the speakers and its response within your setup.
Key Features
- Built-in Class D amplification: the subwoofer operates without an external power amplifier.
- Three operating modes to manage the bass in a stereo system, reproduce an LFE channel, or delegate filtering to external equipment.
- Phase, crossover, and time alignment settings to fine-tune the transition between the subwoofer and the speakers.
- Balanced XLR and TRS analog inputs and outputs, supplemented by an AES3 digital connection.
- Four-band parametric EQ and built-in Sonarworks profiles to tailor the subwoofer’s response based on presets or measurements.
Bass Reproduction and Amplification
The Sub8 PRO combines a long-throw woofer with a Class D amplifier. A DSP-controlled limiter kicks in to protect the electrical and mechanical components when the volume increases.
ADAM Audio states that it has optimized the port using finite element analysis to reduce air turbulence. The MDF enclosure also features reinforcements, while a steel grille protects the driver from accidental contact, particularly when placed under a desk.
Stereo and Multichannel Bass Management
Stereo mode handles routing for a 2.1 system. Crossover and phase settings allow you to adjust the transition between the speakers and the subwoofer to fine-tune the bass balance.
LFE mode applies a 120 Hz cutoff for reproducing the low-frequency effects channel in a multichannel setup. Wide mode allows the subwoofer to utilize its available bandwidth when bass management is handled elsewhere in the audio chain. It does not transform the Sub8 PRO into a full-range speaker.
Network Settings and Calibration
The network connection provides access to ADAM Control settings, including time alignment and four bands of parametric EQ. These tools allow you to adjust the delay and specific low-frequency bands when integrating the subwoofer. They complement the room’s placement and acoustic treatment.
The DSP can host correction profiles created in Sonarworks SoundID Reference. Creating these profiles requires a measurement microphone and a license appropriate for the stereo or multichannel system being calibrated. The Sonarworks integration does not mean that this equipment is included with the package.
Audio Connections and Control
Balanced XLR and TRS analog connections allow you to connect an audio interface or a monitoring controller equipped with compatible outputs. The AES3 connection offers another option with a compatible digital source and carries two channels at up to 24-bit / 96 kHz.
A dedicated input allows you to connect a footswitch to enable or bypass bass management. ADAM Control also provides access to firmware updates.
