Description
The GA ELA M 251E is a tube microphone from Black Lion Audio.
GA ELA M 251E: Close to the legend!
- After three years of hard work, we have recreated one of the most iconic vintage tube microphones in recording history: the Telefunken ELA M 251E, considered by many to be the most beautiful microphone ever produced.
- Our recreation process includes reverse engineering the polarity switching mechanism, engineering the electronic components, and restoring many design aspects to maintain signal integrity.
Features of Black Lion Audio's GA ELA M 251E
Reverse engineering of the polarity switching mechanism
We reverse engineered the polarity switching mechanism, featuring a complex, hand-assembled mechanical structure. This process required precision components such as silver-plated rivets, silver-plated spring parts, precision steel balls, and pure copper positioning pins, to restore the original polarity switching mechanism with the right operating feel.
Reverse engineering of electronic components
We reverse-engineered the insulating plastic substrate for the internal point-to-point soldering, and made a new mold. This resulted in an amplifier circuit offering sublimated sound quality, with deep bass and well-controlled treble.
Refabrication of rubber cores and connectors
The rubber cores for the plugs have been reworked, and the silver-plated connectors are aviation connectors, minimizing signal transmission loss.
Development of the K251 capsule
The K251 capsule has been designed, tested, compared with the performance of the vintage model, then fine-tuned to achieve a sonic character very close to that of an original ELA M.
Explore new possibilities with the GA ELA M 251E
Buying this microphone makes sense for sound engineers and musicians looking to capture sound quality close to vintage microphones. The GA ELA M 251E offers faithful sound reproduction, with incomparable warmth and purity of tone.
Our experts' opinion
