Retro rock electric guitar
The GIBSON Custom Shop Limited Edition 1971 Flying V Medallion Reissue (71FVMVOMCCH1) carries on the legacy of the iconic original 1958 Flying V, a legendary solid body electric guitar. Along with the Explorer, it is THE quintessential Gibson model for fans of hard rock and metal.
The original Flying V Medallion is a particularly iconic model! Produced in very limited numbers at the time, it was notably associated with two heavy metal legends: Michael Schenker and Kirk Hammett. The Medallion V thus helped define the style and sound of a musical genre, simultaneously becoming one of the most prized and sought-after models on the vintage market.
This meticulous recreation begins with a two-piece mahogany body carved to the same thinner profile as the original Medallion models, offering reduced weight while preserving the warmth, resonance, and sustain that define the Flying V platform. The three-piece mahogany neck and 12" radius rosewood fingerboard deliver a fast, comfortable playing experience, while a matched pair of 1968 T-Top Reissue humbuckers provide the clear, authoritative tone that helped shape countless hard rock recordings.
Each guitar features an individually numbered gold medallion on the upper wing, firmly establishing its limited-edition Medallion V lineage. Faithfully handcrafted by the Gibson Custom team in Nashville, the Gibson Custom 1971 Flying V Medallion Reissue is a stunning tribute to a true rock ’n’ roll icon.
Care
The nitrocellulose lacquer, as found on vintage Gibsons, plays an important role in allowing the instrument to “breathe.” Thanks to its porous nature, vibrations are not muffled by the lacquer.
However, this finish may react chemically when in contact with the plastics and foams found in certain guitar stands, as well as with certain cleaning products that are too harsh. To avoid damaging your guitar, we recommend Hercules guitar stands.
