Modulation, chorus, flanger, phaser & tremolo effect pedal
The 3 Series Bit Crusher started from scratch to accomplish two tasks with precision: reduce bit depth and reduce sampling frequency, with a filter to shape the result.
The Crush setting controls bit depth, going from full 24-bit resolution down to 1-bit, from an unprocessed signal to a grainy, textured sound, then to square-wave-like aggressiveness and jerky digital distortion.
The Sample Rate setting ranges from a clean signal at 32.768 kHz down to 2.5 Hz, introducing aliasing and artifacts ranging from slight harmonic changes to ring modulation-like metallic chaos, to total digital collapse.
The Filter control acts on both: initially unfiltered, the further you turn it to the left, the more you sweep the cutoff frequency and increase the filtering.
The Type selector chooses the character of the filter: at the bottom, a second-order low-pass without resonance peaks, inspired by vintage synthesizers like Oberheim, with a full sound, ideal for bass. Above, a successive high-pass/low-pass sweep that highlights a midrange band, evoking the sound of a portable console speaker.
Under the hood, this pedal uses a "zero-hole" filter, a theoretical concept in signal processing that had never found practical application before being integrated into this circuit.
The JHS Pedals 3 Series Bitcrusher works with a 9 volt DC negative-center power supply.
The JHS Pedals 3 Series is a range of pedals designed to offer accessibility and simplicity without compromising quality. Each pedal is manufactured in Missouri, USA, using high-quality components, rigorous quality control and attention to every detail. Each pedal features three simple settings and a selector, offering a wide sound palette suitable for beginners and professionals alike.
