This MARTIN & CO Custom Shop OM-45 #2814835 is an absolutely exceptional Orchestra Model steel-string acoustic guitar. The top is made of Adirondack Spruce, and the back and sides are made of Brazilian / Rio Rosewood. Abundant in the 1930s, when it was used extensively for the soundboards of Martin guitars,"Red Spruce" or "Adirondack" Spruce (Picea Rubens) enjoys enormous popularity. More dense than common Spruce, Adirondack Spruce is exceptionally responsive. Rio Rosewood (Dalbergia Nigra) is widely regarded as the Holy Grail of woodwinds. It has long since acquired its letters of nobility, used for pre-CBS Fenders©, late 1950s Gibsons© and pre-war Martins. More concretely, it possesses all the qualities: outstanding acoustic properties, splendid aesthetics, ease of machining, sturdiness, etc. Sadly endangered, in 1992 it was added to the list of endangered species by the CITES Convention. Brazilian rosewood can now only be obtained and used if it was stored and exported before the CITES ban, or if it was harvested from naturally fallen trees.
