The NUX NPK-200 is a portable 88-key digital piano designed for beginners or hobbyists who want to practice on a hammer-action keyboard while still enjoying modern features for playing, accompanying themselves, and recording. Its WKJ-03 triple-sensor keyboard, two headphone jacks, and built-in speakers make it ready to use right away at home. It’s also suitable for a music production setup thanks to its USB audio and MIDI connectivity.

A Keyboard Suited for Learning the Piano

The NUX WKJ-03 keyboard uses a graded hammer action: the keys offer more resistance in the lower register and gradually become lighter toward the upper register. Five response curves also allow you to adjust the keyboard’s response to your playing style.

The triple sensor tracks key movements during rapid repetitions, while the escapement mechanism replicates a mechanical feature found on acoustic pianos. For a beginner who wants to develop keyboard skills similar to those of a piano rather than those of a lightweight keyboard, these features are particularly relevant.

Can you practice quietly at home?

The NPK-200 has two 3.5 mm stereo headphone jacks. These allow a student and a teacher to practice simultaneously with headphones, or simply to play without using the built-in speakers.

To play without headphones, two built-in 10-watt speakers are included. Three equalizer settings are available to adjust the sound output based on your setup.

Useful features to help you progress and vary your exercises

The 30 sounds can be used individually, layered using the Layer function, or split across two zones using the Split function. For example, you can assign one sound to the left hand and another to the right hand, adjusting the split point and the balance between the two parts.

The metronome offers several time signatures and a range from 40 to 240 BPM. The 30 Pianist accompaniments feature synchronized start, chord recognition, and independent volume control. Ten drum rhythms round out these tools, allowing you to practice with a beat or accompaniment rather than just the metronome.

A built-in 3-track recorder also lets you save multiple parts directly on the piano. This can be useful for recording an accompaniment and then practicing another part over it.

Connection to a computer, smartphone, or tablet

The USB connection carries both audio and MIDI data. This means you can record the NPK-200’s sound into compatible software without necessarily needing an audio interface, or use its keyboard to control a virtual instrument. Depending on the computer or mobile device you’re using, you’ll still need the appropriate cable or adapter.

Bluetooth Audio is used to receive sound from a compatible device—for example, to play a song or backing track through the piano’s speakers and play along with it. This should not be confused with wireless transmission of the piano’s sound to Bluetooth headphones.

Bluetooth MIDI, on the other hand, transmits performance data to a compatible MIDI app or device. It does not carry the piano’s sound.

Connecting to an Audio System

The 6.35 mm L/MONO and R jack outputs allow you to connect the NPK-200 to an amplifier, mixing console, or other equipment with compatible inputs. A 3.5 mm stereo AUX input is also available for connecting an external audio source.

The NPK-200 features a sustain pedal input and a dedicated connection for the NUX NPS-2 three-pedal unit. The latter is optional and provides half-pedal control, among other features.

Dimensions and Setup

Measuring approximately 130 cm wide, 27 cm deep, and weighing 11.2 kg, the NPK-200 remains portable but requires a space suitable for a full 88-key keyboard. Its shallow depth, however, makes it easy to set up in a bedroom, living room, or workspace.

The piano stand is not included and must be purchased separately. For a permanent setup, a suitable cabinet or the NUX-compatible stand can complement the instrument; for more portable use, a stand stable enough to support an 88-key keyboard is required.
