Monitor controller
The Palmer MONICON L G2 G is a monitoring controller designed for advanced home studios and project studios that use multiple sources or multiple listening systems. It centralizes input selection, speaker selection, and volume control from the desktop, without having to adjust settings on the audio interface or on the back of the monitors.
Key Features
- 3 selectable stereo sources: balanced XLR/TRS combo input, RCA AUX input, and Bluetooth.
- 2 stereo outputs and 1 mono output via balanced XLR connectors to drive multiple monitoring systems.
- Latency-free analog audio path for main level control.
- Directly accessible Mono, Dim, and Mute controls.
- Headphone output with independent volume control and PFL function to monitor a source separately.
- Large central knob for quickly adjusting the listening level from the workstation.
Centralize three audio sources
The MONICON L G2 G accepts a balanced stereo source via two XLR/TRS combo jacks, an auxiliary source via RCA, and a Bluetooth source. This allows you to keep an audio interface, an external player, and a mobile device connected at all times, then switch between them using the front-panel controls.
The AUX input and Bluetooth each have their own level controls. Bluetooth is convenient for quickly listening to a reference track from a phone or computer, while the balanced connection remains the ideal link between a studio audio interface and the controller.
Comparing Two Pairs of Speakers and Using a Mono Output
Two balanced stereo XLR outputs allow you to connect two monitoring systems and switch between them using the controller. This setup makes it easy, for example, to compare a mix on a main pair and then on secondary speakers without changing the wiring.
An additional balanced mono output is also available. It can be assigned to equipment requiring a mono signal, provided its level and connectors are compatible with your setup.
Control the volume without using software settings
The large central knob directly controls the listening level. The audio signal path is analog, and Palmer claims latency-free operation, which avoids adding digital processing between the source and the speakers.
The MONICON L G2 G supports both passive and active operation depending on the functions being used. Its external power supply is required for functions that demand electronic power, while control of the main signal relies on an analog circuit.
Quickly Check a Mix with Mono, Dim, and Mute
The Mono, Dim, and Mute controls are accessible directly on the controller. Mono is used to check a mix’s compatibility when both channels are combined; Dim quickly reduces the listening level; and Mute cuts off the outputs without having to change the main setting.
Pre-listen to a source through headphones
The 6.35 mm headphone output has its own volume control. The PFL function allows you to preview a source through headphones independently of the level sent to the speakers, which is useful for checking a signal before routing it to the main monitor.
A Controller Suited for a Desktop Setup
Measuring 218 x 76 x 124 mm and weighing 910 g, the MONICON L G2 G is compact enough to fit between the keyboard, audio interface, and main studio controls. Its chassis combines aluminum and sheet steel, with input and output selectors accompanied by LED indicators to quickly identify the active path.
It is particularly well-suited for studios that want to manage multiple sources and two pairs of speakers without upgrading to a more complex rack-mountable monitor controller. If only a single source and a single pair of monitors need to be controlled, a simpler solution from the Monicon line may suffice.
