Folk guitar

Doc Watson, who owned the Santa Cruz Vintage Artist prototype, called it "the Dreadnought he'd been looking for all his life". In 1991, Richard Hoover (founder of the SGGC company) worked with vintage experts to determine precisely what qualities would be most desirable in the iconic Martin Pre-War D-18s, with the ambition of surpassing them in technicality and quality and thus making them more than mere copies (even if they were of the highest quality).

The Santa Cruz Vintage Artist was born under the expert and uncompromising control of Doc Watson, whom he considers to be the tonal alter-ego, in a magnified evolution, of the pre-war Dreadnought, thanks in particular to exceptional "scalloped X-bracing", ideally exacerbating and combining the power of low frequencies with the limpid clarity of selected mahogany, at the peak of its performance. The Santa Cruz Vintage Artist is delivered in a Santa Cruz hardshell case.

Excellent guitar. Beautiful well balanced tone. It has a warm sound. It sounds a bit more mellow than for example a Martin. It is very dynamic. You can play it softly and it becomes very intimate, but you can also hit it hard and it will growl heavily. Nevertheless it will always remain in balance. The basses are present, the mids are definitely there and it has very subtle trebles.
In terms of playability it is what you would expect from Santa Cruz. Perfect. The same can be said about the finish. This is such a beautiful guitar. Just amazing!!!
I liked the string spacing. It has one mm more spacing at the bridge than my martin HD28 from 2018. At the nut, they are exactly the same although the nut with of the martin is 1 3/4 inch and the Santa cruz is 1 11/16. However the strings are a bit closer to the edge with the Santa cruz, making the spacing the same. So it's a good strummer, but it is also excellent for finger picking.

I was surprised how light this guitar is.

This is one of the best guitars I've ever had in my hands. It is excellent for recording.
I think the best word to describe it is warm, mellow and very subtle. Refined.

One more remark about Star's Music. These guys are just great. They are very professional, follow up everything very closely and proactively communicate on whatever there might be. In my case after they inspected the guitar before shipping, they saw some slight scratches on the pick guard, so they send it to a luthier before sending it to me.
You feel that they know their stuff and they like their job. Top store

cheers
Peter
