Microphone usb

The Shure MV6 Gen 2 is a dynamic cardioid USB microphone designed for streaming, gaming, calls, and content creation from a compatible computer or mobile device. Its main advantage is that it combines voice capture, DSP processing, and headphone output into a single device, eliminating the need for a separate audio interface. For a streamer or content creator looking for a simple desktop setup, it’s ready to use right away with the included stand and USB-C cable.

Key Features

  • Dynamic cardioid capsule designed to prioritize the voice in front of the microphone and minimize pickup from the sides and rear.
  • Auto Level mode that automatically adjusts gain based on voice level and distance from the microphone.
  • Built-in Real-time Denoiser and Digital Popper Stopper to reduce certain ambient noises and plosive sounds during voice recording, respectively.
  • Direct USB-C connection to PCs, Macs, and compatible mobile devices, without the need for an additional audio interface.
  • 3.5 mm headphone output with direct monitoring of the microphone and adjustable mix between the voice and computer audio.
  • Desk stand, windscreen, and USB-C to USB-C cable included to set up a desktop configuration right away.

Is it suitable for a room that isn’t acoustically treated?

The MV6 Gen 2 combines a dynamic capsule with a cardioid polar pattern. It should be pointed toward your mouth and used at an appropriate distance to prioritize your voice over more distant sounds in the room.

The Real-time Denoiser can complement this recording by reducing certain continuous noises, such as those from a fan or an air conditioner. However, it does not transform a noisy or reverberant room into a treated studio: microphone placement and ambient noise levels remain important factors.

Do I need to adjust the gain manually?

Auto Level mode adjusts the gain in real time based on the distance from the microphone and the voice level. It’s ideal for users who want to speak, play, or stream without constantly monitoring their input level.

A manual mode is still available when a fixed setting is preferred. The gain can then be adjusted via the MOTIV Mix app.

What are the built-in effects for?

The Digital Popper Stopper digitally detects and reduces plosive sounds produced by certain consonants. A pop filter is also included, providing physical protection in addition to the digital processing.

A high-pass filter can be set to 75 or 150 Hz to reduce certain low-frequency noises. A tone control also allows you to adjust the sound character to be darker, more natural, or brighter.

Shure specifically optimizes Auto Level, the Real-time Denoiser, and the Digital Popper Stopper for speech. When recording vocals or an instrument, it may be preferable to disable these features depending on the source being recorded.

Can you hear yourself in the headphones without any delay?

The 3.5 mm headphone output provides direct monitoring of the microphone. This means you can hear your voice without having to wait for it to pass through software before it returns to your headphones.

In MOTIV Mix, the Monitor Mix adjusts the balance between the microphone feed and the audio coming from the computer. This feature is useful for simultaneously hearing your voice, gameplay, a conversation, or music.

How does the microphone mute function work?

A touch-sensitive control on the microphone instantly mutes and unmutes the microphone. Its indicator turns red when the microphone is muted.

The physical control can be disabled in MOTIV Mix to prevent accidental muting. The Mute function remains accessible from the app.

Do I need an audio interface or a specific driver?

The MV6 Gen 2 connects directly via USB-C and is powered through this connection. No external audio interface is required to record voice or use the microphone’s headphone output.

It operates in USB Audio Class 2 and supports 16- or 24-bit resolutions at 44.1 or 48 kHz. Mobile compatibility, however, depends on the device being used: a smartphone or tablet must support the necessary USB connection and audio.

What settings can you adjust with the Shure apps?

MOTIV Mix on a computer provides access to gain, Auto Level mode, headphone mix, tone, Real-time Denoiser, Digital Popper Stopper, and high-pass filter. The microphone saves its last settings so they’re available the next time you use it.

The Shure MOTIV Audio and MOTIV Video mobile apps also allow you to use the MV6 with compatible iOS or Android devices. System and connection requirements must be verified for the mobile device being used.

What do you need to get started?

The microphone comes with a round-base desktop stand, a windscreen, a 5/8-to-3/8-inch thread adapter, and a 1-meter USB-C-to-USB-C cable. With a computer equipped with USB-C and headphones with a 3.5 mm jack, no additional audio equipment is required to start recording or streaming.

For a computer equipped only with USB-A ports or for certain Apple devices that use a different connector, a compatible cable or adapter must be purchased separately.
