Description

The FET47 is a condenser microphone offered by United Studio Technologies.

The renaissance of a classic: The UT FET47 represents several years of research and development, sweat and tears, with the sole aim of capturing the essence of one of the most classic and renowned condenser microphones, and recreating it for the modern user.

The Highlights of the FET47

  • The design of the UT FET47 began with a custom Cinemag transformer guaranteeing unparalleled response, warmth, and low-end
  • This feature is complemented by a Heisermann capsule from the HZ series, designed as part of a collaboration between United and Heisermann
  • United also focused on selecting polystyrene capacitors and vintage FETs to achieve THE perfect sound
  • Custom parts, vintage parts, and new old stock parts. Mix it all together with each microphone made in the USA by real sound engineers, and you get the UT FET47. It’s not just a microphone - it’s a United.

Key Features of the FET47

Heiserman Capsule

United worked with renowned capsule designer and manufacturer Eric Heiserman to develop a production model of the latest version of his German-style K47 dual-backplate capsule. Eric collaborated with the United team and our capsule manufacturer to faithfully reproduce his capsule. This process required analyzing the original Mylar as well as the screw threading types; after numerous trials, they finally achieved what they had hoped for. While many design details of the HZ series remain secret, the main advantage is the use of paired dual backplates. The pairing process of the HZ series allows for much more precise and consistent quality from side to side and from one capsule to another. HZ series capsules are always made in small quantities, then rigorously listened to and only used if they meet our expectations and those of Eric.

Custom Cinemag Transformers

Many recreations of the original German transformer were tested, ultimately choosing an exceptional model from Cinemag in California. Their version of this legendary component is a true work of art: a large and heavy transformer made of a “striped core” consisting of interlaced sets of nickel and steel lamination stacks, wound to the original specifications. Its humbucker-type design allows for clean and quiet operation.

It's Not Just a Mic, It's a UNITED

The UT FET47 represents a true passion for microphones, with a holistic vision of design. With over 50 years of combined experience in the industry, years spent on research and development, United is proud to present the UT FET47.
