Overdrive, distortion & fuzz effect pedal
Around 1973/74, EH again adjusted the circuit and design of its first Big Muff. Acoustically close to the original Ram's Head, these pedals have certain distinctive features, and their purple typography makes them easy to identify. Collectors have dubbed them Violet Editions, and while the sound can vary from one example to the next, they generally have a grain that can be described as juicy and velvety, with deep mids.
After the usual hunt for the best components and a great deal of experimentation, W&C opted for the famous Tin Can BC108C transistor. Although this transistor was used in the first Silicon Fuzz Faces of the 1970s, it was not integrated into the circuits of the original Muffs. But it works perfectly with the WREN AND CUFF Violet World circuit.
