MicroFreak Key Features
A crazy "Grain
Equipped with a versatile digital oscillator, this synthesizer lets you create a host of rare and interesting sounds with disconcerting ease, even for the less experienced among you. With modes such as Texturer, KarplusStrong, Harmonic OSC and Superwave, you'll have the privilege of discovering totally new and unheard-of sounds. The Microfreak is capable of offering you several machines in one. The Microfreak's flexible, powerful engine is sure to appeal to sound synthesis neophytes and professionals alike!
"We're in this together!
Arturia attaches great importance to collaboration. That's why, for the Microfreak, the company worked hand in hand with one of the pioneers of digital modular synthesizers: Mutable Instruments. That's why, among the many modes of the Microfreak's synthesis engine, you'll find the oscillator of the famous "Plaits" module, much appreciated in the industry. You'll benefit from the same sounds, modes and parameter controls as those of the iconic Eurorack module, but from stand-alone, high-performance hardware.
The best of both worlds (digital and analog)
Microfreak's analog filter is largely inspired by Oberheim SEM's avant-garde 12db filter. The filter is variable-state, and can even self-oscillate! You can use it in any way you like, whether to give your wavetables an edge, or to automate the filter by modulating it with the keyboard's aftertouch or the built-in sequencer.
Leave room for chance
With the Microfreak, you can record up to four automations and edit your sequences step by step using the sequencer. The sequencer features a Spice and Dice mode, so you can leave a little room for randomness and, why not, create original evolving patterns. With the modulation matrix (5x7), you can virtually rewire and reconfigure the entire audio signal chain.
An unusual keyboard
In fact, it's not even really a keyboard. It's a PCB, super-flat and with no moving parts. Using this strange keyboard, you'll be able to play synth solos with ease. It's not just pressure-sensitive, either. It also features polyphonic-aftertouch, meaning that each key can control parameters in a different way depending on what you touch.
Modern connectivity
The Microfreak provides USB, MIDI and CV outputs for controlling virtual instruments from your DAW or for your modular synths. This also means you can use the MicroFreak as a controller to experiment with polyphonic aftertouch with state-of-the-art software instruments.
