Digital piano with stand
The Casio Celviano AP-750BN is a freestanding digital piano designed for experienced pianists looking for a primary instrument to practice at home, featuring a hybrid keyboard, three built-in pedals, and a sophisticated amplification system. This BN version features the same specifications as the AP-750 but in a brown finish. It combines the Smart Hybrid Hammer Action Keyboard CELVIANO Edition, the AiR Grand engine, and the Grandphonic system with 8 speakers.
Key Features
- The Smart Hybrid Hammer Action Keyboard CELVIANO Edition combines wood and resin across 88 weighted keys, allowing for nuanced touch and repeated notes on a hammer-action mechanism.
- The AiR Grand engine offers three distinct grand pianos, including the Berlin Grand, developed in collaboration with C. Bechstein.
- The Grandphonic system distributes sound through 8 speakers across 4 channels to project sound from multiple areas of the cabinet.
- The three-pedal action is built-in, featuring a soft pedal and continuous control over the forte and soft pedals.
- Instant RePlayer automatically records up to 270 seconds of performance so you can replay a passage without having to start the recording beforehand.
- The included WU-BT10 adapter adds Bluetooth Audio and Bluetooth MIDI support for compatible devices.
Is this keyboard suitable for an experienced pianist?
The Smart Hybrid Hammer Action Keyboard CELVIANO Edition uses a hammer-action mechanism and a hybrid wood-and-resin construction, with spruce integrated into the white keys. Counterweights help shape the key response, particularly when playing requires subtle dynamic levels.
Digital Scaling also adjusts the response of the 88 keys. However, the AP-750BN remains a digital piano with hammer action and does not physically replicate the entire action of an acoustic grand piano.
What piano sounds are available?
The AiR Grand engine offers a total of 39 sounds, including three grand pianos with distinct characters. Among them, the Berlin Grand was developed in collaboration with C. Bechstein.
The maximum polyphony of 256 notes provides ample headroom for complex passages, layered sounds, and sustained use of the sustain pedal. Nevertheless, the instrument is clearly geared toward piano playing rather than a broad workstation-style sound bank.
Can the piano’s sound behavior be adjusted?
The acoustic simulation takes into account several phenomena associated with an acoustic piano, including string resonances, sustain pedal resonances, open string resonances, and overtone resonances. Parameters related to key noise, pedals, hammer response, and key release are also available.
A lid-opening simulator also modifies the sound depending on the selected setting. These functions are used to adjust the behavior of the piano model rather than simply adding a general effect.
What does the 8-speaker Grandphonic system change?
The Grandphonic Sound System uses 8 speakers distributed across 4 channels. This architecture delivers different components of the sound from multiple areas of the cabinet rather than relying solely on a pair of speakers.
The built-in amplification allows you to play without external speakers. Volume Sync EQ adjusts the frequency balance when the overall volume is lowered, which is particularly useful for practicing at home without having to play loudly.
Do the pedals allow for advanced playing techniques?
The built-in pedalboard includes the forte, sostenuto, and soft pedals. The forte pedal supports half-pedaling, allowing you to control the sustain of notes rather than relying solely on an on/off function.
The forte and soft pedals also feature continuous control. The pedalboard is built into the cabinet, so there’s no need to purchase a separate three-pedal unit.
How do you record and play back your performance?
The AP-750BN features a 2-track MIDI recorder to save a performance as MIDI data. The audio recording function also allows you to store up to 99 songs, depending on the storage medium used.
Instant RePlayer serves a different purpose: the piano automatically saves up to 270 seconds of your playing. This allows you to immediately replay a passage you’ve just played, even if you didn’t manually start the recording.
What is the Visual Information Bar used for?
The Visual Information Bar uses light indicators to display certain information directly on the instrument. Depending on the selected function, it can display playing velocity, pedal action, tempo, or rhythm.
It serves as a visual guide while you play without requiring a large screen in the center of the piano. Its role is complementary to listening and the feel of playing.
Can you play with headphones in an apartment?
Two headphone outputs allow you to practice without using the piano’s built-in amplification and also let two people listen simultaneously. This setup can be useful for a lesson or a practice session with a partner.
Headphones block out the sound coming from the speakers, but not the mechanical noises produced by the keys and pedals. In a home where vibrations transmitted through the floor can be a concern, this is something to keep in mind.
What do Bluetooth and CASIO MUSIC SPACE offer?
The included WU-BT10 adapter provides Bluetooth Audio and Bluetooth MIDI. Bluetooth Audio is used to receive audio from a compatible device on the piano, while Bluetooth MIDI transmits MIDI data to a compatible app.
CASIO MUSIC SPACE allows you to access the piano’s compatible features from a smartphone or tablet. USB Type A and Type B ports, as well as two line outputs, round out the connectivity options for external equipment.
Who is the AP-750BN best suited for?
The AP-750BN is best suited for an experienced pianist who wants to set up a freestanding digital piano permanently in a dedicated room or living room. Its keyboard, built-in pedalboard, and Grandphonic system truly shine when used in a fixed location on a regular basis.
It is less suitable for musicians who frequently need to transport their instrument for rehearsals or live performances. In such cases, a portable digital piano or a stage piano would be more practical.
