Digital piano with stand
The Casio Celviano AP-750 is a freestanding digital piano designed for experienced pianists looking for a primary instrument to practice and play at home, featuring a hybrid keyboard and a sophisticated built-in amplification system. It combines the CELVIANO Edition Smart Hybrid Hammer Action keyboard, the AiR Grand engine, and the Grandphonic system with 8 speakers. It is particularly well-suited for those who want an experience centered on the acoustic piano while retaining the benefits of digital technology for headphone use, recording, and connecting to apps.
Key Features
- The Smart Hybrid Hammer Action CELVIANO Edition keyboard combines wood and resin across 88 weighted keys, allowing you to work on nuances and repetitions using hammer-action mechanics.
- The AiR Grand engine offers three distinct grand pianos, including the Berlin Grand developed in collaboration with C. Bechstein, allowing you to choose the piano’s character based on the repertoire.
- The Grandphonic system uses 8 speakers across 4 channels to project sound from multiple locations within the cabinet rather than just a single pair of speakers.
- The three pedals are built into the cabinet, with a soft pedal and continuous detection on the forte and soft pedals.
- Instant RePlayer automatically saves up to 270 seconds of performance so you can replay a passage even if recording wasn’t started beforehand.
- Two headphone outputs allow two people to play or listen through headphones simultaneously.
Is the keyboard suitable for an experienced pianist?
The Smart Hybrid Hammer Action CELVIANO Edition uses a hammer-action mechanism with white keys made of a combination of resin and spruce. Counterweights help determine the key response, particularly when played with light touch.
Casio complements this action with sensitivity adjustment and Digital Scaling applied individually to all 88 keys. The AP-750 remains, however, a digital piano with hammer action—not the full action of an acoustic grand piano.
What piano sounds can you play on the AP-750?
The AiR Grand engine incorporates technologies developed for the Celviano Grand Hybrid series. Three main grand piano sounds are available, including the Berlin Grand—developed in collaboration with C. Bechstein—to offer distinct tonal characters without switching instruments.
The AP-750 features a total of 39 sounds and a maximum polyphony of 256 notes. It can therefore also be used for pieces requiring other timbres, but its features and design are primarily geared toward piano playing.
Can the piano’s behavior be fine-tuned?
The acoustic simulation takes into account several phenomena associated with an acoustic piano, including string resonance, forte pedal resonance, open string resonance, and overtone resonance. Parameters related to hammer response as well as key and pedal noises are also available.
A lid-opening simulator also modifies the sound depending on the selected setting. These functions are designed to adapt the behavior of the piano model rather than simply adding a general reverb effect.
What does the 8-speaker Grandphonic system change?
The Grandphonic Sound System distributes 8 speakers across 4 channels within the cabinet. This architecture projects different components of the sound from multiple positions to more accurately reproduce the way a piano’s sound propagates around the instrument.
The built-in amplification allows you to play without external speakers. For low-volume playing, Volume Sync EQ adjusts the frequency balance when the volume is reduced, which is particularly useful for playing at home without turning up the amplification.
Do the pedals support advanced playing techniques?
The built-in pedalboard includes the forte, sostenuto, and soft pedals. The forte pedal supports half-pedal operation, which is useful for controlling the sustain of notes rather than functioning solely in an on or off position.
The forte and soft pedals also feature continuous detection. The pedalboard is built into the unit, so there’s no need to purchase a separate three-pedal unit.
How can you listen back to and record your performance?
The MIDI recorder offers two tracks for saving a performance as playback data. An audio recorder is also available when you want to save the instrument’s sound, with a capacity of up to 99 songs.
Instant RePlayer meets another need: the piano automatically saves up to 270 seconds of your playing. After a passage you want to review, you can listen to it again even if you didn’t think to start a recording before you began.
What is the Visual Information Bar used for?
The Visual Information Bar uses light indicators to display certain information directly on the instrument. Depending on the function selected, it can show playing velocity, pedal action, tempo, or rhythm.
It can serve as a reference while you practice without requiring a large screen in the center of the piano. Its usefulness, however, depends on your practice method: it complements your physical sensations and listening rather than replacing them.
Can you play with headphones in an apartment?
Two headphone outputs allow you to mute the speakers so you can practice without amplifying sound throughout the room. Two people can also each connect their own headphones, for example, for a lesson with a teacher.
As with any digital piano featuring a hammer-action mechanism, headphones eliminate the amplified sound but not the mechanical noises from the keys and pedals. This can be an important consideration in a home where mechanical vibrations are easily transmitted to the floor.
What do Bluetooth and CASIO MUSIC SPACE offer?
The included WU-BT10 adapter adds Bluetooth Audio and Bluetooth MIDI. Bluetooth Audio is used to receive audio from a compatible device on the piano, while Bluetooth MIDI transmits MIDI data to a compatible app. These two functions should not be confused.
The AP-750 also works with CASIO MUSIC SPACE, allowing you to access the instrument’s compatible features from a smartphone or tablet. USB Type A and Type B ports, as well as line outputs, round out the connection options for use with external equipment.
What considerations should be taken into account before installation?
The AP-750 is a freestanding piano intended to remain installed in a single room. Its keyboard, pedalboard, and Grandphonic system are designed with this concept of a fixed home instrument in mind: it is not intended as a stage piano to be transported regularly.
It is therefore particularly well-suited for experienced pianists who have a permanent space and wish to practice primarily on a dedicated digital instrument. For frequent rehearsals away from home, concerts, or storage after each session, a portable digital piano would be more appropriate.
