Digital piano with stand
The Casio Celviano AP-S200BN is a compact, freestanding digital piano designed for regular practice at home. It is particularly well-suited for serious beginners, students making progress, and hobbyist pianists who want a freestanding instrument with 88 weighted keys, three pedals, and built-in amplification, without requiring too much depth for the cabinet. This BN version features a brown wood-grain finish.
Key Features
- 88-key keyboard with graded hammer action to provide a response suited to piano playing.
- Depth of 299 mm, making it ideal for placing a piano in a living room, bedroom, or small space.
- 19 sounds and a maximum polyphony of 192 notes, with Layer, Split, and Duo functions.
- 20 W + 20 W amplification with two 12-cm speakers for playing directly without additional speakers.
- Built-in three-pedal action with half-pedal control on the sustain pedal.
- Bluetooth Audio and Bluetooth MIDI Low Energy via the included WU-BT10 adapter.
Is the keyboard suitable for learning and improving?
The keyboard features 88 graded hammer-action keys with five sensitivity levels. This allows you to adjust the keyboard’s response to your playing style while practicing dynamics across the full range of a piano.
The white and black keys feature textures inspired by ivory and ebony. However, the AP-S200 remains a compact model: it prioritizes a space-saving mechanism over the more elaborate hybrid action found in higher-end Celviano models.
What does the AiR sound engine offer?
AiR Multi-Dimensional Morphing technology adjusts the tone based on playing dynamics. The AP-S200BN offers 19 sounds and a maximum polyphony of 192 notes, providing ample headroom when multiple notes resonate simultaneously with the sustain pedal.
Digital Scaling technology individually adjusts the response of all 88 keys. The piano also reproduces several acoustic phenomena, including string resonance, damper resonance, and certain mechanical noises from the keys and pedal.
Can you play with multiple sounds or play duets?
The Layer function overlays two sounds, while Split assigns different sounds to separate zones of the keyboard. These modes expand your playing possibilities without requiring any external equipment.
Duo mode divides the keyboard into two zones with equivalent ranges. It can be useful during a lesson when a teacher and a student want to play the same passage side by side on a single instrument.
Is it suitable for playing at low volume or with headphones?
The built-in audio system features two 12-cm speakers with 20 W + 20 W amplification. Therefore, there’s no need to add external speakers for normal home use.
The Volume Sync EQ function activates when the overall volume is reduced to maintain a balanced sound. Headphone mode also adjusts the sound output when you want to practice without using the speakers.
Is the pedalboard suitable for playing the piano repertoire?
The unit includes the three pedals: forte, sostenuto, and soft. The forte pedal supports half-pedaling, allowing you to control its action rather than having it operate only in the fully depressed or fully released positions.
How can you record and practice your pieces?
The 2-track MIDI recorder lets you save a performance or practice different parts separately. The audio recorder can save up to 99 songs, each approximately 25 minutes long, to a compatible USB drive.
The AP-S200BN also comes with 60 built-in songs. You can practice the right-hand part, the left-hand part, or both hands separately, depending on the song you’re using.
What are Bluetooth and CASIO MUSIC SPACE used for?
The included WU-BT10 adapter adds two distinct functions. Bluetooth Audio receives audio from a compatible smartphone or tablet and plays it back on the piano, while Bluetooth MIDI Low Energy exchanges MIDI data with compatible apps.
The piano also works with CASIO MUSIC SPACE to control various functions from a compatible mobile device.
Who is the Casio AP-S200BN best suited for?
This model is particularly well-suited for a beginner who wants to learn directly on 88 weighted keys, for a student taking lessons, or for a hobbyist pianist who prefers a full-sized piano to a portable piano on a stand. Its depth of 299 mm is a practical advantage when space is limited.
An experienced pianist, however, who is primarily looking for a more sophisticated action or a more advanced acoustic simulation may prefer a higher-end Celviano model.
