Casio AP-S200BK - noir

The Casio Celviano AP-S200BK is a compact digital piano designed for regular practice at home. It is particularly well-suited for serious beginners, students making progress, and pianists who want a shallow cabinet without sacrificing 88 weighted keys, three pedals, and built-in amplification. Its compact size makes it easy to set up in a living room, bedroom, or workspace where a deeper piano would be impractical.

Key Features

• 88-key Smart Scaled Hammer Action keyboard for practicing on weighted keys rather than a lightweight arranger-style keyboard.
• Compact, shallow cabinet, better suited to limited home spaces than a bulkier traditional digital piano.
• 20 W + 20 W amplification with two 12 cm speakers for playing directly without external speakers.
• Fixed three-pedal action with half-pedal control on the sustain pedal.
• Bluetooth Audio and Bluetooth MIDI Low Energy via the included WU-BT10 adapter.
• 2-track MIDI recorder and audio recording to USB storage so you can listen back to your work or save a performance.

Is this keyboard suitable for serious piano study?

The Smart Scaled Hammer Action features a hammer-action mechanism across 88 keys, with five levels of touch sensitivity. This allows you to work on nuances and dynamics with a response tailored to piano playing.

The white and black keys feature textured surfaces inspired by ivory and ebony. However, the AP-S200 remains a compact digital piano: it prioritizes a small footprint over a more elaborate hybrid action like that found in higher-end Celviano models.

What can you do with the 19 sounds?

Multi-Dimensional Morphing AiR technology delivers the piano sounds and other built-in tones, with a maximum polyphony of 192 notes. The Layer and Split functions are used, respectively, to layer two sounds or to assign two tones to different zones of the keyboard.

Duo mode divides the keyboard into two zones with comparable ranges. This can be useful for lessons, when a teacher and student want to play the same passage side by side on the same instrument.

Can you play comfortably at low volume or with headphones?

The built-in 20 W + 20 W amplifier powers two 12-cm speakers and is sufficient for home use without an additional audio system. The Volume Sync EQ function adjusts the sound balance when the overall volume is reduced.

Headphone mode adjusts the sound output when you play without using the speakers. This feature is particularly useful for practicing in an apartment or in the evening without disturbing others in the room.

Is the pedalboard suitable for playing the piano repertoire?

The piano features three pedals corresponding to the forte, sostenuto, and soft functions. The forte pedal supports half-pedaling, allowing you to control its action rather than having it operate only in the fully depressed or fully released positions.

This built-in pedalboard eliminates the need for a separate pedal and offers a setup more similar to that of an acoustic piano.

How can you record and play back your performance?

The 2-track MIDI recorder can be used to capture a performance or to work on two parts separately. To save an audio recording, the AP-S200 can store up to 99 songs of approximately 25 minutes each on a compatible USB storage device.

The piano also comes with 60 built-in songs and can store up to 10 user songs. These features are especially useful for personal practice, critical listening, and supporting learning sessions.

What are Bluetooth and CASIO MUSIC SPACE used for?

The included WU-BT10 adapter provides Bluetooth Audio and Bluetooth MIDI Low Energy. Bluetooth Audio receives audio from a compatible smartphone or tablet and plays it back through the piano, while Bluetooth MIDI exchanges performance data with a compatible app.

The AP-S200 works with CASIO MUSIC SPACE to control certain functions from a mobile device. Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth Audio therefore serve different purposes and should not be confused.

Who is the AP-S200BK best suited for?

This model is ideal for a beginner who wants to learn on 88 weighted keys, for a student progressing with a teacher, or for a recreational pianist looking for a stationary yet compact instrument. Its cabinet, three pedals, and built-in amplification make it a more complete solution than a portable piano placed on a simple stand.

However, a very advanced pianist looking primarily for a more sophisticated action or a more realistic reproduction of a grand piano’s behavior may prefer a higher-end Celviano model.
