Digital piano with stand
The Casio Celviano AP-S200WE is a compact digital piano designed for regular practice at home. It is particularly well-suited for serious beginners, students making progress, and recreational pianists looking for 88 weighted keys, three pedals, and a built-in amplifier in a shallow cabinet. This WE version features a white wood-grain finish with a sliding keyboard cover.
Key Features
- 88-key Smart Scaled Hammer Action keyboard for practicing on a hammer-action mechanism suited for learning and playing the piano.
- A shallow cabinet with a built-in three-pedal action, convenient when a digital piano needs to remain permanently set up in a living area.
- 19 tones and a maximum polyphony of 192 notes, with Layer, Split, and Duo functions.
- 20 W + 20 W amplification with two 12 cm speakers for playing directly without external speakers.
- 2-track MIDI recorder and audio recording to USB storage for reviewing and saving your work.
- Bluetooth Audio and Bluetooth MIDI Low Energy via the included WU-BT10 adapter.
Is this keyboard suitable for serious piano study?
The Smart Scaled Hammer Action features 88 hammer-action keys with five levels of touch sensitivity. This allows you to adjust the keyboard’s response to your playing style while practicing dynamics across the entire range.
The white keys feature an ivory-inspired finish, and the black keys have a texture similar to ebony. However, the AP-S200 remains a compact model: it prioritizes a space-saving mechanism over the more elaborate hybrid action found in the higher-end Celviano models.
What does the AiR sound engine offer?
AiR Multi-Dimensional Morphing technology adapts the tone to changes in playing dynamics. The AP-S200WE offers 19 sounds and a maximum polyphony of 192 notes, which is particularly useful when multiple notes resonate simultaneously with the sustain pedal.
The piano also reproduces various acoustic phenomena such as string resonance, damper resonance, and certain mechanical noises associated with the keys and pedal. Digital Scaling technology individually adjusts each of the 88 notes to ensure consistent response across the entire keyboard.
Can two people play together or combine multiple sounds?
The Layer function overlays two sounds, while Split assigns different sounds to separate zones of the keyboard. These functions allow you, for example, to combine two timbres or reserve part of the keyboard for a different sound.
Duo mode divides the keyboard into two zones with comparable ranges. It’s particularly useful during lessons when a teacher and student want to play side by side on the same instrument.
Is it suitable for playing at low volumes?
The built-in audio system features two 12-cm speakers with 20 W + 20 W amplification. Therefore, there’s no need to add external speakers for normal home use.
The Volume Sync EQ feature kicks in when the overall volume is lowered to maintain the balance of the sound. A headphone mode is also available for silent practice when you don’t want to use the speakers.
Is the pedalboard suitable for playing the piano repertoire?
The AP-S200WE features three pedals—forte, sostenuto, and soft—integrated directly into its cabinet. The forte pedal supports half-pedal operation, allowing you to modulate its action rather than being limited to fully open or fully closed positions.
How do you record your performance?
The two-track MIDI recorder can be used to capture a performance or to record different parts separately. To save an audio file directly, the recorder can store up to 99 songs of approximately 25 minutes each on a compatible USB storage device.
The piano also comes with 60 built-in songs and can store up to 10 user songs. These features can be used for personal practice, accompaniment, or listening back to a song you’re learning.
What are Bluetooth and CASIO MUSIC SPACE used for?
The included WU-BT10 adapter provides two separate connections. Bluetooth Audio receives audio from a compatible smartphone or tablet and plays it through the piano’s audio system, while Bluetooth MIDI Low Energy exchanges MIDI data with compatible apps.
The AP-S200WE also works with the CASIO MUSIC SPACE app, which allows you to control various functions from a compatible mobile device.
Who is the Casio AP-S200WE best suited for?
This model is well-suited for a beginner who wants to learn directly on 88 weighted keys, a student taking lessons, or a hobbyist pianist who prefers a full-sized piano cabinet to a portable piano on a stand. Its compact size is particularly advantageous when available space is a major constraint.
An experienced pianist, however, who is primarily looking for a more sophisticated action or more advanced acoustic simulation features may want to consider a higher-end Celviano model.
