The Crooner offers a pedalboard-compatible version of one of the best studio preamps ever designed: the RCA BA-31. This unassuming, discrete preamp delivered rich bass and remarkable clarity to many famous recordings.
Catalinbread drew inspiration from their Airstrip and equipped the Crooner with a discrete UREI-style operational amplifier at the input to saturate the preamp circuit, as well as extensive and progressive saturation when pushed to its limit. At its core, it offers the full spectrum of gain: clean boost, overdrive, distortion, and powerful, thick fuzz.

- Settings:
- • Push: UREI-style op-amp gain, specially calibrated for its RCA-style preamp. When set to minimum, it provides minimal gain at the front end of the preamp circuit.
- • Volume: Output level.
- • Filter: Slight attenuation of the high frequencies for a precise and controlled sound with high Push and Trim settings.
- • Trim: Gain of the RCA preamp circuit itself. Since the original circuit was not designed to provide significant internal gain, this control pushes the circuit beyond its intended operating range, offering a wide range of settings, further enhanced by the Push control.
