This version of the best-sellingEARTHQUAKER DEVICES Feathers features an ultra-limited cast-iron finish (100 units) for this Tube Screamer-inspired analog mid-gain overdrive.
EarthQuaker Devices has cleverly modified the circuit by replacing certain strategic components and raising the input impedance to 10 MΩ. As a result, the Feathers offer a more robust, precise and brilliant signal with a much lower noise level.
The 9-volt input power supply is internally converted to +/-9 volts for a tenfold increase in dynamics and clarity. Tone control has been configured for an ideal balance between bass, midrange and treble. As an added bonus, the Feather offers three different clipping options for optimum flexibility and versatility.
- Mode 1 is a symmetrical clipping using a pair of LEDs; this is the Feathers' crunchiest mode. On a clean amp, it will reproduce this classic crunchy transistor amp sound very well.
- Mode 2 is a clean boost that eliminates the LEDs, leaving only the saturation of the op-amp. Perfect for bringing your clean sound to the fore, or for fleshing out the grain of an already saturated amp.
- Mode 3 is an asymmetrical silicon diode configuration similar to the traditional Tube Screamer, but with more output level and clarity.
