The FENDER Custom Shop Limited Edition Tomatillo Tele Custom Relic #R110879 (9236080855) ideally combines traditional and more contemporary features. The Tomatillo pickups deliver particularly muted tones, and a mixer instead of the usual tone potentiometer lets you dose the interaction of the two pickups at will. Solid body electric guitar, body in Ash selected "sort for lightweight", bolt-on neck in quarter-sawn Maple (1957 Soft V profile), Maple fingerboard (narrow-tall frets, hybrid radius 7.25" > 9.5" ), Custom Shop Hand-Wound Tomatillo Alnico II hand-wound pickups. Sold with Fender Custom Shop hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity. Fender Telecaster and Stratocaster guitars are an integral part of the history of amplified music, having contributed greatly to its expansion and democratization.
The ideal would be to be the proud owner of an original example from the 50s or 60s, but the price of vintage instruments is so high that it's difficult for anyone to gain access to them.

Concerning the Relic finish (for the models concerned): the dealers present at NAMM 1995 were totally blown away by the level of realism of the first two Relic models Fender presented to them that year; most mistook them for genuine Fender originals (they were a '51 Nocaster and a '56 Mary Kaye Stratocaster).
The Fender "relicing" process has now become an integral part of Custom Shop sales.
