Overdrive, distortion & fuzz effect pedal
The Plasma Coil is a version of the Plasma Pedal designed in collaboration with Jack White (The White Stripes, The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs) and his company Third Man Records. Jack White used the Plasma Coil on the Raconteurs' latest album "Help Us Stranger" and the tour that followed.
The Plasma Coil takes high-voltage distortion a step further, adding intense and unique upper and lower octave effects by pushing the high-voltage transformer:
- 2 subharmonic modes (bit crush-type lower octave).
- 1 high-harmonic mode (octafuzz-type upper octave).
- 2 mixed modes (high and low harmonics combined).
This is the Plasma Pedal's crazy brother. Octave effects add massive bass and treble to high notes, and extreme, intense gain to lower notes.
The simplified signal path is as follows:
Input > Equalization > Octave/Effect > High-voltage transformer > Xenon tubes > Antenna to pick up electromagnetic vibrations around the tubes > Output.
The Plasma Coil uses a standard 9-Volt negative-center power supply (not supplied) at 250mA.
The xenon lamp has a service life of between 10,000 and 70,000 hours, and can be replaced if necessary.
