The Taylor Guitars brand
Taylor Guitars was founded in 1974 in El Cajon, near San Diego, by Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug. The brand made its name through highly precise manufacturing, which guarantees consistent quality from one guitar to the next, and through innovations that have become its signature:
- The NT neck: bolt-on and adjustable, it keeps a low, stable action over time.
- V-Class bracing: designed by master luthier Andy Powers, it improves sustain and intonation on models from the 300 Series upwards.
- Expression System 2 electronics: they faithfully reproduce the guitar's natural sound when plugged in.
Today, Taylor is employee-owned and is committed to responsible wood sourcing, notably through the Ebony Project in Cameroon.
Choose the shape of your Taylor guitar
The body shape changes both the sound and the playing comfort. Here are the main shapes offered by Taylor:
- Grand Auditorium: created by Taylor in 1994, it is the most versatile. It suits strumming accompaniment and fingerstyle equally well.
- Grand Concert: more compact, it delivers a precise, intimate tone, ideal for fingerpicking and recording.
- Dreadnought and Grand Pacific: they deliver a powerful sound rich in bass, perfect for accompanying with a pick.
- GS Mini and Baby Taylor: made for travelling or playing anywhere, they offer a true guitar sound in a reduced size.
