About Us
Iris Guitar Company is an American company founded in 2018 by luthier Adam Buchwald. With a small team of experienced and passionate luthiers, they produce high-end acoustic guitars in limited quantities using traditional craftsmanship. Inspired by vintage acoustic guitars from the 1930s to the 1950s, Iris guitars focus on exceptional tonal quality and flawless craftsmanship, avoiding excessive embellishments that could have driven up prices. This gives you the opportunity to purchase a “custom shop”-quality instrument at a reasonable price.
A diverse lineup for every preference
Available in various body styles, Iris guitars come in several models suited to all playing styles:
- DF (dreadnought slope shoulder)
- D-WH (dreadnought square shoulder)
- WE (orchestra model)
- MS-00
- RCM-000 12-Fret
- OG (Iris proprietary format)
Vintage tones for expressive playing
Iris guitars offer an exceptionally vintage tone, with common characteristics such as a warm, organic tone, rich and lively mids, and a crisp, dynamic attack. They provide excellent articulation, making them ideal for a variety of musical styles, including blues, Americana, and pop, whether you’re a strummer or a finger-picker.
An Iconic Model: the IRIS OG #1389
Sensitive and meticulously crafted, the IRIS OG #1389 is the first model to emerge from the Iris workshops. Featuring a “Sinker” Sitka spruce top, a vintage 1940s mahogany body, a rosewood fingerboard, and a Relic Satin Natural finish, it delivers a warm and direct tonal character. Its midrange response is remarkable, offering excellent projection and clarity, making it fundamentally versatile and suitable for both strummers and fingerpickers, whether in standard or open tuning.
Materials Selected for Superior Tone
The “Sinker” Sitka spruce used for the top of the IRIS OG #1389 comes from logs submerged in lakes or rivers, which have become impregnated with minerals over time. This unique process gives the wood greater density and weight, resulting in exceptional tone and enhanced resonance.
