Unique copy bearing the serial number 2748960. Net weight (without case): 2.03 kg.
Developed in collaboration with a former Martin employee, this MARTIN & CO D-42 Special Dick Boak #2748960 is an exceptional Dreadnought-style steel-string acoustic guitar, perfectly balanced across the entire frequency spectrum, with outstanding responsiveness.
The D-42 Special commemorates Boak's experimental ornamentation work almost 25 years ago, when Martin installed his first laser engraving machine. All the woods used in this guitar are of course massive, and selected with the utmost intransigence for their acoustic and aesthetic qualities. Sitka Spruce top, East Indian Rosewood back/ sides and Ebony fingerboard.
Sitka spruce is the traditional choice for the vast majority of acoustic guitars. Thanks to a perfect balance between robustness and elasticity, Sitka generates a direct, punchy sound with impeccable articulation. These characteristics give this species great flexibility of sound and adaptability to virtually any playing style: strumming, flatpicking or fingerpicking. Indian Rosewood is definitely one of the most popular traditional woods. It has the same fundamental character as mahogany, with a strong midrange (albeit more subdued), but with a much wider frequency range at the top and bottom of the spectrum.
