In just a few short years, Randy Rhoads has revolutionized the art of the rock'n'roll guitarist, blending legato passages and flowing, classically inspired melodies with searing, violin-like leads and overdriven riffs. One of the most essential components of this captivating sound was the MXR Distortion+: Randy harnessed its raw energy to assault his high-gain amplifier with a torrent of harmonics, creating the signature sound that would forever mark music history.
MXR celebrates its monumental legacy with this recreation of its own MXR Distortion+. For the first time in 42 years, the Rhoads family unveiled Randy's pedalboard to the MXR design team at the Musonia School of Music, the family's music school in Los Angeles. It was here that the MXR design team made history: carefully opening the pedalboard, inspecting and meticulously documenting everything they could about this rock'n'roll artifact. The engineers carefully designed Randy's vintage Distortion+, with direct input from his sister Kathy Rhoads, and created this signature model to reproduce the saturated tones of Randy's most beloved hits.
Inspired by the supersonic airliner he took on tour with Ozzy Osbourne, Randy designed a Flying V-style guitar with a white finish and fine stripes. This iconic instrument inspired this special edition MXR Randy Rhoads Distortion+. An exclusive collector's booklet is included.
