Monitor controller
The Palmer MONICON M G2 is a passive monitoring controller designed for home studios, project studios, editing suites, and multimedia workstations. Placed between an audio source and a pair of speakers, it provides access to volume and key listening controls directly from the desk, without the need for an external power supply.
Key Features
- Passive volume control with a large analog potentiometer, accessible without having to return to the software or audio interface.
- Balanced stereo input via two XLR/TRS combo jacks for an audio interface or other compatible line source.
- Unbalanced 3.5 mm mini-jack input for easier connection to a computer or mobile device with a compatible output.
- Balanced XLR and 3.5 mm mini-jack outputs to accommodate various monitoring setups.
- MONO, DIM, and MUTE controls accessible directly while working.
- Fully analog audio path with no latency associated with digital processing.
Volume control right at your fingertips
The MONICON M G2 connects between your source and your listening system. Its large knob serves as the main control for increasing or decreasing the speaker volume, without constantly adjusting the output level on your computer or audio interface.
Its passive design requires no power supply. However, it does not replace an audio interface or an amplifier: the source must provide a line-level signal, and the speakers must have their own amplification, unless used with a suitable external amplifier.
Connections Suitable for Both Studio and Multimedia Setups
For a studio setup, the stereo input uses two combo jacks that accept balanced XLR or TRS jack connections. The two balanced XLR outputs then make it easy to connect to a pair of active monitors equipped with this type of input.
An unbalanced 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack input and output are also available. These allow the controller to be used with more compact sources or listening systems when a balanced connection is not necessary or available.
Mono, Dim, and Mute for Quick Monitoring Control
Three buttons prevent you from accidentally changing your settings during a session. MONO controls the behavior of the mix in mono mode, DIM temporarily reduces the playback level, and MUTE mutes the output when you need immediate silence.
These controls are particularly useful during mixing or editing, for example, to perform a quick check at a reduced level or to mute the speakers without adjusting the main volume setting.
A deliberately simple controller
The MONICON M G2 is best suited for a setup centered around a stereo source and a monitoring system. It does not include a dedicated headphone output, Bluetooth, or the ability to select multiple pairs of speakers—features found on more comprehensive monitoring controllers.
Measuring 160 x 62 x 106 mm and weighing 480 g, it takes up very little space on a desk. Its enclosure combines aluminum and sheet steel.
