Overdrive, distortion & fuzz effect pedal
The STRYMON Fairfax Class A Output Stage Drive is an amp-in-a-box processor inspired by the Garnet Amplifiers Herzog® Tube Drive Unit designed for Randy Bachman in 1965.
Strymon has miniaturized all the components of a tube amp (preamp, Class A power stage, output transformer behavior) with 100% analog signal processing.
The Fairfax is a pedal designed for purists to generate very organic, generous and musical overdrive. At low gain, the Fairfax thickens the clean channel without distorting the amp or instrument signal. At higher saturation levels, it produces more nervous, detailed crunches that will appeal to fans of Blues Rock, Classic Rock and Indie Rock.
The Sag control, depending on the dosage, generates reactive compression or more radical, fuzzy tones, ideal in a Garage, Stoner or Sludge context.
Compatible with both conventional amplifiers and modelers, the Fairfax offers immense potential, with the characteristic harmonic richness of a saturating transformer or a more linear, transparent rendering depending on the settings applied. The voltage is raised to 40V by an internal device to give the Fairfax the typical behavior of a tube amp. Be careful, however, not to power the pedal with an adapter of more than 9V!
