Reverb, delay & echo effect pedal
Step back in time to when audio effects were still uncharted territory and discover the vintage, haunting sound of a real "Oil Can" echo.
From dark, modulated repeats to sustained textures evoking the sound of classic spring reverbs, the Olivera is the first pedal emulation to faithfully capture both the mechanical and organic nature of these atypical machines, infusing all your tracks with funky inspiration.
The first oil echoes were created by the Tel-Rey company in 1959. The process involved generating repeats by applying a static charge to a small rotating disk inside a box, with oil serving as the lubricating dielectric. This innovative approach produced sounds very different from those of a tape recorder, instantly transporting the listener into a darker, more mysterious universe, imbued with a unique atmosphere.
Our design efforts have resulted in a complex, authentic emulation rendering, requiring a great deal of research and a completely new algorithm to achieve the desired realism. The Olivera pedal captures the very essence of the original units, from the dark repeats with their unique rhythmic and decay characteristics to the thick, unreal modulation that evolves in time with the audio signal. No other type of delay can match the rendering of an effects pedal, and no other pedal emulation rivals the Olivera.
The new Strymon Olivera offers a host of powerful features that make it easy to integrate these nostalgic sounds into your modern setup: discrete stereo operation for independent processing of left and right stereo inputs; simplified controls, expression pedal and Multiswitch compatibility; delay persistence to preserve repeats when the pedal is deactivated; discrete Class A JFET stereo input preamp for exceptional touch sensitivity and ideal frequency response; MIDI control of patch recall and continuous controller data; high-end components, rugged heavy-duty construction and USB socket for firmware updates or pedal control from your computer.
