Today, Universal Audio is a leading brand in the music industry, and certainly the brand of choice for all professional sound engineers. The company was founded in 1958 by Bill Putnam Sr., who is regarded as a pioneer of innovative recording technology. After Bill Putnam Sr. passed away in 1989, the production of Universal Audio products was stopped. It wasn't until 1990 that his son, Bill Putnam Junior, decided to take over his father's business. In addition to reproducing the analogue machines that had made Universal Audio's heyday, Bill Junior, along with his brother, decided to embark on the digital adventure, which was becoming increasingly present in music. At the time, the analog/digital confrontation was being debated by professionals in the field. But Universal Audio managed to find the ideal compromise with its UAD plugins.
Later on, Universal Audio made its mark with its audio interfaces, especially the Apollo range. The brand also offers guitar effects pedals and microphones, including one emulating 34 legendary microphones.
