The company was founded in 1958 by Bill Putnam Sr., who is regarded as a pioneer of innovative recording technology. At the time, the analog/digital confrontation was being debated by professionals in the field. But Universal Audio managed to find the ideal compromise with its UAD plugins.
Later on, Universal Audio made its mark with its audio interfaces, especially the Apollo range. The brand also offers guitar effects pedals and microphones, including one emulating 34 legendary microphones.
