Overdrive, distortion & fuzz effect pedal
Built around two 2N527 or 2N404 Germanium transistors, the compact BENSON AMPS Germanium Fuzz (Solar White) pedal delivers the saturation typical of high-quality Classic Rock/Psychedelic pedals from the 60's and 70's. Germanium transistor fuzzes are notorious for the negative influence that the temperature of the on-board transistors can have on the sound of the effect: the hotter they get, the more distortion they produce.
To remedy this problem, Benson Amps is the first manufacturer to integrate a fully analog thermal regulation circuit: an indicator diode changes color to show when the circuit is overheating, and corrects its bias to the correct voltage.
Nevertheless, the pedal will operate optimally between 0 and 37 degrees Celsius. A buffer upstream of the circuit is directly connected to an audio transformer. The "Impedance" control is positioned after the buffer/audio transformer duo and simulates the grain obtained when the volume is turned down on the guitar.
