Solid body electric bass
Unique copy bearing the serial number R137642. Net weight (without case): 4.25 kg.
This magnificent 1964 FENDER Custom Shop Jazz Bass Heavy Relic Aged Cherry Sunburst solidbody electric bass #R137642 (9237002722) seems to have teleported directly from the sixties. It's a splendid reproduction of the vintage Jazzbass with selected two-piece Alder body, "plain grain / round lam" Maple neck (60's Jazz Bass U profile), AAA Rosewood fingerboard (radius 9.5" radius, "vintage upgrade 45085" frets), Custom Shop Vintage Jazz Bass pickups, Custom Shop case and accessories included. The Fender Custom Shop offers arguably the most realistic replica guitars on the market, employing manufacturing techniques and tooling similar to those used to create the original Fender instruments.
It goes without saying that the quality of these reproductions is also due to the excellence of the components selected, and the meticulous attention to detail with which the craftsmen create these masterpieces. The Fender Telecaster and Stratocaster are timeless references. They are an integral part of the history of amplified music, having made a major contribution to its expansion and democratization. Ideally, you'd like to be the proud owner of an original from the 50s or 60s, but the price of vintage models is so high that it's difficult for anyone to gain access to them. Concerning the Relic finish: the dealers present at NAMM 1995 were totally blown away by the level of realism of the first two Relic models that Fender presented to them that year. Most mistook them for genuine Fender originals (a '51 Nocaster and a '56 Mary Kaye Stratocaster).
Fender's early-aging process has now become a way of life, making up the bulk of Custom Shop sales.
