Folk guitar
The Gibson Hummingbird, an iconic steel-string acoustic guitar, is a must-have for musicians seeking rich tones and a timeless aesthetic.
Overview
Introduced in 1960, the Gibson Hummingbird is just as iconic as models like the J-45 or the Martin D-28. It has accompanied countless legendary artists such as Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, and Eric Clapton. The Gibson Modern Collection Hummingbird Standard (MCSSHBHFSWT) retains the fundamental characteristics of the original Dreadnought Square Shoulder Hummingbird, while incorporating a Baggs HiFi DNA pickup for enhanced sound performance.
All-solid-wood construction for a rich, clear tone
This guitar has an all-solid-wood construction, combining traditional woods that promote excellent sound projection. Its construction is as follows:
- Sitka spruce top
- Mahogany body and neck
- Indian rosewood fingerboard (20 frets)
This combination produces a full, powerful tone with generous bass, rich mids, and clear highs. Its natural acoustic volume is particularly well-suited for singers who want to accompany themselves on guitar.
Advanced Preamp for an Authentic Sound
The Hummingbird Standard features the exclusive Baggs HiFi DNA system. This system uses two pickups positioned beneath the bridge plate, replacing the traditional piezo pickup, which allows it to capture:
- String vibrations
- Vibrations from the soundboard
This results in even more natural and dynamic recordings that reproduce the guitar’s original acoustic character with enhanced fidelity. Each pickup has its own active preamp, while the volume and tone controls are cleverly located on the inner edge of the soundhole.
Versatility for All Playing Styles
The Gibson Hummingbird Standard is an exceptional electro-acoustic steel-string acoustic guitar, offering versatility that suits all musicians, regardless of their musical style or playing approach—whether fingerpicking or strumming.
