Gibson LG-2 50s Original (Baggs HiFi DNA Preamp) - vintage sunburst

The original Gibson LG-2, an icon since 1942, is a steel-string acoustic guitar with a rich, warm tone, prized by guitarists for its comfort and compact size.

Overview

The original Gibson LG-2 was introduced in 1942 during Gibson’s “Banner” era. It can be considered a more compact version of the J-45, a Concert Round Shoulder model. It was quickly embraced by guitarists for its pleasant, compact size and its full, rich tone. Originally built with an Adirondack spruce top and a mahogany back and sides, it was redesigned due to material shortages caused by World War II. Depending on availability, the body could be made of maple, and the top of mahogany.

A modern reinterpretation of the classic LG-2

The GIBSON Original Collection LG-2 50s (OCSBLGHFVS) is an electro-acoustic reinterpretation of this historic steel-string acoustic guitar, enhanced with the Baggs HiFi DNA preamp. Featuring an all-solid-wood construction, it delivers beautiful, clear, and dynamic tones that are rich and warm, with well-defined mids. This makes it particularly well-suited for fans of fingerpicking, blues, or traditional folk.

Advanced recording technology for an authentic sound

The LG-2 50s Original is equipped with the exclusive Baggs HiFi DNA system. This system uses two sensors placed under the bridge instead of the usual piezo pickup. They capture both the vibrations of the strings and those of the soundboard, producing even more natural and dynamic recordings that faithfully reproduce the instrument’s original acoustic character. Each Baggs HiFi DNA pickup has its own active preamp, with volume and tone controls located on the inner rim of the soundhole.
