Custom Shop & Star's Music
Developed by the Master Builders of the Fender Custom Shop, authentic maestros of lutherie, Fender Masterbuilt guitars and basses are the holy grail for any passionate musician in search of excellence.
Adored by the greatest artists such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Yngwie Malmsteen, Robert Cray and many others, the Master Builders have total control of each phase of the instrument manufacturing process. From the selection of species and components to the assembly adjusted to the millimeter, to the finishes bordering on a work of art, their exceptional know-how lives up to the requirements required to practice within the most prestigious of CustomShop.
Pass the torch to perpetuate the Fender legend! Ron Thorn, Dale Wilson, Paul Waller, Jason Smith or Denis Galuszka trained for many years with the legendary and uncompromising John Page, Fred Stuart, John English or John Suhr. It is now their turn to transmit the common expertise to new talents such as Andy Hicks, Levi Perry or Austin Macnutt.

Str shape electric guitar
Unique copy bearing the serial number R147577. Net weight (without case): 3.17 kg.
Designed and crafted by master builder Austin MacNutt, the FENDER Custom Shop Late 1959 Stratocaster Masterbuilt MBAM #R147577 (9217001106) is an exceptional model, crafted from hand-selected components: a two-piece body made of torrefied ash, a torrefied 3A-grade flamed maple neck, a "sort for dark" rosewood fingerboard (Large C profile, 9.5" radius, jumbo frets), Custom Shop hand-wound Fat 50's pickups, and Custom Shop hardware.
In addition to giving the wood an elegant patina, the torrefaction process improves the instrument’s stability, sustain, clarity, and resonance, while protecting it from temperature fluctuations, humidity, and mold.
Austin MacNutt was born in Canada to musician parents. A fan of the Fender brand since childhood—particularly his father’s vintage 1963 Jaguar—he began his musical training at the age of 10.
It wasn’t long before he developed an interest in lutherie and began repairing guitars for local musicians. He then took his skills to the next level by enrolling at the Guitar Craft Academy in Hollywood. Recognizing his talent, the school eventually offered him a teaching position, which he held for five years.
During a seminar, he met Ron Thorn, who in turn hired him at Thorn Guitars. There, he spent eleven years crafting high-end instruments from start to finish.
He now practices his craft in the prestigious setting of the Fender Custom Shop.
