The original Gibson Dove was produced from 1962 through the end of the decade, combining features of the Hummingbird with the maple body of the SJ-200. This model was designed to compete with Martin guitars in the high-end market and was adopted by many music legends, such as Elvis Presley, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty, Alex Lifeson, and John Mellencamp. The GIBSON Original Collection Dove (OCSSDOHFVCS) retains its fundamental characteristics with a Baggs HiFi DNA preamp.

Each pickup has its own active preamp, and the volume and tone controls are cleverly located on the inner edge of the soundhole.
